Read Up! is a framework for 6-8 reading intervention. It is designed for students who struggle with reading and need additional support in their content area classes as indicated by scoring at the strategic level on the MAZE assessment. Instruction can be delivered during students’ elective time or other sustained time on team.
.
Read Up! delves into the thinking skills of Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy and the reading components of fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Teachers will provide direct instruction on these skills, model them in action, and guide students in their use and mastery of the skills using high-interest informational text. The curriculum is presented in the form of a framework with lessons and documents that are designed to guide teachers in tailoring instruction to meet students’ needs.
All documents for Read Up! are available digitally and can be accessed by clicking on the buttons to the right. To support the Read Up! curriculum, teachers will use resources currently available in each middle school such as AMP, High Wire Magazine, and Academy of Reading, as well as Inquire: A Guide to 21st Century Learning.
